Title: Advanced geotechnical engineering monitoring methods in Polish opencast lignite mines
Authors: BEDNARCZYK, Z.
Keywords: geotechnical monitoring, landslides, slope stability in opencast mining
Abstract: The article presents research carried out within the framework of the European Union project Euracoal SLOPES. The project is conducted by the partners from six European countries and coordinated by the Geomechanics Center of Nottingham University. Geotechnical research performed in Poland, on the western slope of the Bełchatów Lignite Mine so-called Bełchatów Field included an advanced on-line system of inclinometer and piezometer monitoring of 100 m depth. It was supplemented by ground based laser scanning, LiDAR scanning with the usage of drone and laboratory tests. The results obtained were used for numerical modeling of the slope stability. This should allow for a better prediction of landslide risks and the testing of new research methods.
