Abstract: Article presents results of high-resolution computed microtomography (μCT) use in internal structure of soil samples’ image analysis. These results enable the determination of reliable series of samples. Furthermore, μCT analysis revealed structure changes during static load and creep triaxial tests. The study was performed with the use of Mio-Pliocene clay paste and undisturbed Miocene clay-slate samples. The μCT tests were implemented before and after triaxial tests. Firstly, the remoulded clay samples from Warsaw were analysed and then clay-slate samples from the Carpathian Foredeep. Before creep triaxial tests were done, standard static load triaxial tests (type CU) were performed. Thanks to previous analysis stage, strength parameters and maximum failure axial stress were defined. The next stage were the creep triaxial tests with non-failure stress field condition, which were determined according to the previous study stage. Based on the obtained μCT images of the structure, the types of failure were characterised and three-dimensional models of samples were generated. Additionally, fractions of natural and post-failure fractures were calculated. Two- and three-dimensional images of the internal structure of cohesive soils establish new opportunities in the analysis of soil properties adjustment processes.
