Keywords: peak undrained shear strength, residual/remoulded shear strength, field vane test, Eurocode 7

Abstract: Vane test is in the assumptions very simple way for direct measurement of shear strength of soil. However, despite its simplicity it requires a lot of attention and precision, and in properly conducted leads to significant overestimation of strength parameter. The article will be facing issues related to testing methodology for FVT probe, according to various standards, including new recommendations of Eurocode 7, supported by the results of own research on test sites. Differences in obtained results point to the necessity of selecting a suitable methodology (the choice of velocity, objectivity of testing techniques) for given testing conditions (soil type).
