Title: Heavy metals, carbon, phosphorus and the activity of acid catalase and phosphatase in the soil affected by uncontrolled landfill dump

Abstract: The research presented concerned the effect of uncontrolled landfill site on the content of organic carbon, available phosphorus, lead and nickel as well as the activity of catalase and acid phosphatase in soil. The results were exposed to the statistical analysis (applying Statistica 10.0 software), which will facilitate the evaluation of the threat resulting from illegal waste deposition on the outskirts of the city of Bydgoszcz. It was found that waste damped at the landfill site investigated did not have a considerable effect on pollution with heavy metals, however their increased content, as compared with the control, decreased the activity of the enzymes in which catalase, based on the calculated resistance coefficient (RS 0.580), turned out to be more resistant to environmental stress than acid phosphatase (RS 0.372).
