Title: Stabilization of silty soils using cement with an ion-exchanger

Authors: KOŚ, K.

Keywords: cement, compression strength

Abstract: The paper presents the results of soil stabilization using cement with an ion-exchanger. The tests were carried out in order to determine the effectiveness of the mentioned additive in stabilization with cement in Polish conditions. Two materials were used in the tests, the bottom sediments from dam reservoirs, classified as silty sand 20 K. Koś (from Czorsztyński Reservoir) and silt (from Rzeszowski Reservoir). Compressive strength and frost resistance of four mixtures after different times (from 7 to 365 days) and methods of caring (water or frost-thaw cycles) were determined. Using cement with an ion-exchanger significantly increased the compressive strength and frost resistance of the silty sand in relation to using cement alone (although it did not have any reflection during classification of this material in road engineering). However, similar results were not noted in case of silt – mixtures of silt with cement and ion-exchanger showed even less beneficial values of compression strength and frost resistance than the ones stabilized only with cement.
