Title: FEM application in a geotechnical design of earth hydrotechnical structures

Authors: SKUTNIK, Z.

Keywords: finite element method (FEM), earth dam, geotechnical design

Abstract: The article lists the considerations for use of the finite element method for modeling and numerical analysis of phenomena affecting the work of hydrotechnical structures. Stress state and deformation assessment as well as the stability and seepage analysis are the most important sentences that an engineer must solve by designing an earth dam, levee or other structure. The article highlighted some of the merits of the Dr. Eng. Roman Kamiński, that he made a huge contribution both to the development and implementation of the programs using numeric geotechnical FEM. Using the language of Eurocode 7, geotechnical design is not possible without the use of numerical methods based on FEM.
