Abstract: Industrial activity generates a large amount of waste and wastewater containing heavy metals, including many chromium compounds. There is especially significant to remove chromium(VI) ions from the natural environment because of their carcinogenic and teratogenic character. Traditional methods of treatment of industrial wastewater are expensive and unlikely to be helpful especially at low concentrations of pollutions. Thus, a new, cheaper and simpler methods are sought. The solution can be a biosorption which is based on binding of heavy metals from water solutions by easy and cheep to obtain dead biomass of organisms. The paper presents an overview of the most important of literature on removal of Cr(VI) and Cr(III) ions from aqueous solutions by algae biomass.
