Abstract: This paper, based on continuous measurements collected by digital data loggers in the hydrological year 2012, presents the range and variability of water temperature in the Raba River in Myślenice and the Świder River in Wólka Mlądzka. Comparison of estimated statistical descriptors led to the conclusion that thermal conditions of mentioned rivers are significantly different, especially in winter and summer periods. Ecological descriptors, which included thermal requirements for brown trout, were also used for this study. It was found that the Świder River has definitely much more appropriate thermal conditions for the existence of these valuable coldwater fish, which may have important implications for the fisheries management.
