Title: Assessment of bearing capacity of pad foundation based on PN-EN 1997-1 (2008) and PN-81/B-03020 (1981)

Abstract: The purpose of this paper was a comparative analysis of the bearing capacity of the non-cohesive and cohesive subsoils loaded by pad foundation calculated in accordance with PN-EN 1997-1 (2008) and PN-81/B-03020 (1981). The analysis was carried out for verification of ultimate limit states due to bearing resistance and sliding resistance for pad foundation on non-cohesive and cohesive subsoil. The calculations were performed using standards PN-EN and PN-B (to collect loads and assess the ultimate limit states). Pad foundations have dimensions: 1.6 × 1.3 × 0.6 m on the non-cohesive subsoil and 1.7 × 1.4 × 0.6 m for the cohesive subsoil. Degree of utilization of bearing resistance for subsoil under the foundations of the same load and, calculated according to two standards are similar and amount to according to PN-EN and according to PN-B: 0.77 and 0.72; 0.86 and 0.86 for non-cohesive subsoil, 0.54 and 0.51; 0.59 and 0.62 for cohesive subsoil (in drained condition). For cohesive subsoil in undrained condition the degrees of utilization of bearing resistance are 0.82 and 0.86. Degree of utilization of sliding resistance calculated using two standards PN-EN and PN-B: are respectively 0.20 and 0.27 for non-cohesive subsoil and 0.27 for cohesive subsoil (in drained condition) and 0.31 and 0.46 for cohesive subsoil (in undrained condition).
