Title: The influence of filter backwash water recirculation on quality of treated water – a review of literature

Abstract: In this article problems associated with recirculation of filter backwash water to the head of the water treatment plant are presented. The article concerns threats and difficulties relating to filter backwash water recirculation and describes various methods of recycle. One of the greatest threat is the presence of microorganisms in filter backwash water, especially pathogens, which may appear in filtered water during recirculation and significantly worsen the quality of treated water.
