Title: Investigation of backwashing efficiency of rapid filters
Authors: SIWIEC, T.
Keywords: filters, backwashing filters, expansion
Abstract: The paper presents phenomenons which occure during backwashing of rapid filters and explains different notations such as minimum fluidization velocity and bed expansion. In further describes the main backwashing methods i.e. with water only, with air blowing at first step and water backwashing at second step and simultaneously backwashing with air and water. Investigations show that the best is simultaneously backwashing with air and water, worse air blowing and next water backwashing and alone water backwashing. Backwashing with water only has a small effectiveness. Significant influence air blowing on effective backwashing filters is confirmed by photos which show sticked grains with sediments. These grains were removed from filters which were backwashing with to small effectiveness.
